Note: If your system is managed by an IT administrator, check with the IT administrator before making any of the changes listed below.

Macintosh OS X 10.5

Currently Macintosh OS X 10.5 systems must be registered manually because of an incompatibility with the Java 6 runtime engine on those systems. Once they are manual registered, they can be woken up using the web site. Contact the ITS Helpdesk (4-HELP) or its-helpdesk@uiowa.edu for assistance in getting your Macintosh OS X 10.5 system registered. Be prepared to provide the following information. If you are not sure how to find this information, the Help Desk can assist you with that as well.

MAC (Media Access Control) address of the NIC (Network Interface Card)
IP address of your system
Your HawkID or University ID number
Enabling Wake On LAN for OS X 10.5

Open System Preferences.
Open the Energy Saver Preference pane.
Click Options.
Check the Wake for Ethernet Network Administrator Access checkbox.

Enabling Wake On LAN for OS X 10.6

Open System Preferences.
Open the Energy Saver Preference pane.
Check the Wake for Network Access checkbox.
